if 100,000 lefty bloggers donate $10 then there's your one million.

i live in memphis, where thousands of refugees have located themselves, and the local television stations here have banners constantly running about information for relief to the refugees, that the Red Cross is using this money for the victims of Katrina in the form of gas vouchers and food and shelter.

don't let people out there fool you into thinking that the Red Cross doesn't use the money you give them to help these people in such desperate need.

Why all this donating? A million is a drop in the bucket. Why isn't the US government taking this all on--use some of that 4 billion/month that's going to Iraq? Haven't we already "donated" to the US gov for this type of thing? Many times over! Are all these donation schemes really here to make people feel good? To pay overhead costs for the various organizations that sponsor them? Something else?

Off topic, but can't seem to find a way to contact y'all. I've seen my blog, listed here before (a Mississippi blog), and I know I've gotten a good bit of traffic to my site from LeftyBlogs. For some reason, though, it seems to have disappeared. It hadn't updated in a while and now it's just gone. Any ideas why? It's an Atom XML feed.
