Rejected? Wondering why?

We've had a bunch of emails from folks wondering if their blog has been rejected... So, in an attempt to demystify things, a little bit of background -- and a look at future changes.

For starters, we approve blogs nearly every day (but sometimes miss a day or two). So, don't freak out for at least three days after you submit your blog. You'll know that your blog has been approved if you see it on the blogroll for your state.

If it hasn't been approved, take a good hard long look at your own blog and ask yourself if it really, truly, honestly meets the criteria:

* Is it mostly political? (Not sometimes political, but mostly.)
* Is it mostly local? (Not sometimes local, but mostly.)
* Is it progressive? (OK, we've got a pretty expansive definition here.)
* Is is mostly original content? (Seriously, we're not including the copy-and-paste bloggers. You have to have something to say.)
* Has it been around for a few months? (A few exceptions - like candidate blogs, but otherwise we're sticklers here.)

I continue to be surprised that folks submit blogs that are brand-new, barely about politics, not even remotely local, etc.

Looking to the future... I'm working on some changes. For starters, we need to collect email addresses when blogs sign up -- right now, we don't have any way to contact you. (Stupid, I know.)

Then, we'll have a "You're Approved/Rejected!" note that goes out. The rejection would include the reasons why.

For now, if your blog isn't on your state's blogroll - and it meets the criteria - go ahead and resubmit. If you've been rejected, it'll tell you.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. Just one person here, doing this as a volunteer side-project/labor-of-love.

Ok, so if I resubmit, and I'm told that my blog is rejected, how do I go about finding the reason for the rejection?
I don't want to merely wait three months to simply try again.

Vern, your blog was rejected because your blog doesn't include any content about Arizona. I even clicked on your Arizona category - and there's nothing there.

It actually contains quite a bit of info about AZ and cities in AZ. Unfortunately the categories are not functioning correctly at the moment.

Oh well... Guess I'll try again later when I have my blog running right.

Not that I am trying again, yet, but if you click the Arizona category, there are now plenty of entries about Arizona.
As I stated, I was having a problem previously with my categories. That is fixed, so I am now going through and categorizing my entries.

Why was my blog taken off...?

Just-a-wandering.

Mimi... Looks like we're having some trouble today with reading Atom feeds (for blogger blogs). I'm looking into it.

Howling Latina wasn't taken off. Just take a look at the blogroll for Virginia. It's still there.

Hello Kari--My blog, Talking Politics, seems to have been accepted and then excised from the Massachusetts portion of the site. I had a bunch of posts up yesterday, but they're all gone today. What gives?

Not a biggie - just curious. When you have the time, can you let me know the deficits of my blog, as you see them re: the Lefty Blog list? Thanks. :)

Hey, I was just wondering if you looked over my website that I submitted, Ryan's Take, which has been around since August and covers a lot of Massachusetts politics as well as Boston Archdiocese Catholic policy. Even national issues that I touch upon usually are through the lens of Massachusetts (ie I wrote about Hillary Clinton, but only because she was supposedly attending a UMASS to lecture - which turned out to be a hoax). Let me know, thanks.
