LeftyBlogs started as a personal project to display a few RSS feeds on my own personal home page; and then on my blog - BlueOregon.com; and only later grew to a nationwide collection of 1500+ blogs.
As a result, the code hasn't scaled as nicely as I'd like -- and it's in need of a complete bottom-to-top overhaul.
I think I've found a volunteer willing and able to take on the challenge. (More on that later.) While we're rebuilding, it's a perfect time to build in capabilities.
So, let's make this an open thread for feature requests, upgrade options, and persistent bugs. If you could have anything you wanted from LeftyBlogs, what would it be?

I am not currently able to display the headlines. It works for other js and rss feeds. The problem is the title which is off the side bar.
When I had it on past templates I disliked the header. It seemed rather big.
Having a version of the js without a title would be great. Also access to the rss feed would be a plus. I would much rather have headlines than not.

Would it be possible to give each state its own RSS feed? I am always checking into the same state and it would be nice to just add it to my RSS reader.

Any interest in having a separate section for Lefty podcasts?

Print. Time and time again, lefty bloggers make statements and requests aimed at Democrat and Liberal politicians. Yet the politicians aren't listening; they aren't reading. Some don't even know what an operating system is.
I suggest printing each state's latest posts and mailing them to the respective local politicians once a month. Lefty bloggers would turn out in droves if they knew their words were being delivered right to the top.

Make the Favicons work! Please?
Posted by Matthew on May 31, 2006 08:45 PM
URI -- Sorry, but you're flat wrong on that score. I've been told directly by one US Senator, one Governor, and many state legislators and local officials, that they read blogs all the time. One said he was "addicted".
Put yourself in the politician's shoes. There's a bunch of people out there on the internet talking about you and your work every day. Would you read it?
Damn right you would.

Matthew - the Favicons DO work, if you're doing it the normal way - putting it at yourblog.com/favicon.ico. Of course, that doesn't work for blogspot.com (their fault, not yours or mine), so folks resort to the meta-tag method.
On the upgrade, we'll look into adding that.

Take a look at Rhode Island ... the URI Democrats have a proper favicon. Yet it shows up as a missing image. If you right-click the missing image and open it in a new window ... voila! Favicon! So the link to the favicon works great, but for some reason, it isn't showing up on your blogroll.

Please add RSS feeds for each state. My blog is hosted at wordpress.com and no javascript is allowed. As the result, I can't use the standard setup to display Lefty Blogs on my blog.

Why is one of your advertisements for "Future of the Internet" (http://www.internetofthefuture.org/)? They're fighting Net Neutrality. It seems this would be the last place such an ad should appear, no?
