Whew! It's 3:45 a.m. and I've finished up a fix to the Blogger Beta problem. And you can tell, because LeftyBlogs just discovered some 400 more posts just in the last hour.
Here's the deal: Blogger Beta has some kind of funky new format for the Atom.xml - and I can't get my reader to read it. But, have no fear, their RSS format is perfectly readable.
So, life is good.
Of course, regular ol' Blogger doesn't produce the new-fangled RSS feed (but has the ol' Atom feed that's fine) -- but there's no way to differentiate one from the other without actually reading the files. So, for now, we're attempting to read an old Atom and a new RSS for each BlogSpot blog.
That's a big bandwidth hit, and in slightly annoying fashion, every Blogger blog is now listed twice on their state's blogroll.
Now that this long-running crisis is finally fixed, we're going redouble our efforts to re-engineer LeftyBlogs.com from the ground up.
If you are - or know someone who is - a pro at coding in Perl, working with RSS, and managing massive amounts of data... well, this would be one heckuva satisfying volunteer job. I'd sing your praises from the highest mountaintops (and be a fantastic job reference.) So, if you're out there, drop me a line. If not, I'll keep plugging away in the wee hours.

Kari,
Thanks for all your hard work on this. I'm one of those hapless rubes who prematurely switched to Blogger Beta. You haven't switched my feed to RSS yet because although I use Blogger, I post my blog on my own URL and not Blogspot. My blog can be found at http://blog.m2powered.com and the RSS feed is http://blog.m2powered.com/rss.xml. I'm on the Arizona blogroll if that helps.
Again, many thanks.

Thanks for working the problem out. The number of visitors to my site is up quite a bit thanks to Leftyblogs! :-)

Add my thanks to those already received, and I suspect, the many more that will follow.
Your work is important and makes a difference. Keep doing what you do!

Kari, thanks so much for your help. This is an amazing resource. I must admit, it was pretty funny seeing over twenty of my posts show up all at once. I think it's the most hits I've ever gotten in one day - ha ha!

It's been three days since I stupidly switched to beta blog and to date, no new posts on Lefty, my friend:(

Posts show up then disappear. They are listed on your site but stop showing up on the current feed after a day. You have to keep reposting.
Posted by eileen on November 28, 2006 07:44 PM
No, you don't. Once it reads your RSS feed, it adds it to a database, and it'll stay up on the site.
We do have one bug/feature that works like this: If your blog suddenly disappears, it pulls all the posts for that blog. If your blog later reappears, it'll put 'em all back.
Why? Because we've got a major problem with real blogs being abandoned, and then replaced by spam blogs. I don't want people clicking on a link and being directed to a porn site.
This isn't a problem if your blog stays up. From time to time, Blogger has had a problem with staying up.
Don't keep republishing old posts as new ones. Instead, just wait -- and your posts will reappear as soon as Blogger recovers again.
It does no one a service if you continually repost old stuff over and over and over. We've had people do that -- less innocently than you -- and I've pulled 'em from LeftyBlogs.com. We're not interested in anyone who is just blgowhoring and fishing for traffic.

Yes, it stay up on YOUR site. But the Rhode Island state site feed loses mine after a few hours. Sorry, I should have been more specific.
Posted by eileen on November 29, 2006 05:13 PM
Kari, I had an instance the other day where I updated a few old posts (for example I was reading one and corrected a misspelling I found), and it reposted to Leftyblogs for some reason. I hope before you guys remove peoples blogs you are making sure that something like that wasn't the case. :-)
Just wanted to make sure you were aware.

My posts have again stopped showing up on LeftyBlogs (which accounts for about 20% of my readers). Hopefully this is just temporary....?.....

I changed the url of my blog back in November, added the new url last week in Lefty Blogs, but it's still not showing up. The old url is listed (twice) on the blogroll, but not the new one. Old url: http://lyoncountydems.blogspot.com
Help!!

Gosh, I hate this! I'm still not listed twice and still not getting through. Once again, I'm needy.
All my other recipients to my RSS feed say it's coming in fine. I was one of the first foolish vicitms of "Betagate" and my the last one back into LB.
Kari, Help!

Kari,
Thanks for adding my new blog, "Political Fallout" to the Iowa blogroll. My posts still don't show up on the Iowa blogwire. Is there something I need to do on my end to help make this happen. Please let me know when you get a chance. Again, thanks for everything you do; lefty blogs has proven to be an invaluable service and tool.
Sincerely,
T.M. Lindsey

My blog isn't showing up at all. I did switch to the new blogger, but like an earlier responder, I publish to my own URL...http://www.topofmyhead.info.
Thanks!

Then you should resubmit it with the url for your RSS (not Atom) feed. Blogger completely changed how they handle feeds.

So, for now, we're attempting to read an old Atom and a new RSS for each BlogSpot blog.
No offense, but this does no good for those of use who use Blogger, but don't host with BlogSpot. I haven't had a single Blognonymous post show up on LeftyBlogs since I was forced to switch to New Blogger 3 weeks ago. Not that it was so great before. Usually my posts would show up for a grand total of about an hour before being booted off the "local" page on the next feed refresh.
And since, LeftyBlogs has no mechanism for changing my feed (to RSS, to Feedburner, or to anything else), there's not much I can do about it.
I'll give it a week...then I'm going to remove the references to LeftyBlogs on my site and be done with it. You can just delete Blognonymous from the CA blogroll after that.
Regretfully... A very frustrated

I have the (registered) blog "The Fruit Fly" (www.fruitfly.wordpress.com). Wordpress, the blog engine, was completely re-written from top-down and it's become a huge problem for me technically. I get loads of stale and dead-ended scripts, lockups, pop-up windows that aren't manageable to name a few.
Consequently, I've moved to Blogger with a new blog name as
EnK Stain
http://enkstain.blogspot.com/
I registered it with Lefty Blogs, but obviously the new blog is less than two months. How can I update my Lefty Blog registration?
Thanks
EnK
