Emprical Support For Economic Dependence Theory Of Marriage Stability

As recently as 1990, women of all educational levels earned about the same percent of the hourly wages of men with the same education. To the extent the gendered “wage gap” varied, college educated women enjoyed slightly more parity with men than working class women. By 2007, the wage gap varied dramatically by class. College-educated women earned a smaller percentage of the hourly income of thei...

State Of The Union Address 2012 Policy Proposals Annotated

The State of the Union address typically includes all of the major policy proposals on an administration's agenda for the year. What proposals did President Obama make this year? I've stripped out the atmospherics and justifications for the agenda and stripped it down the policy proposals, with some commentary intertwined. Underlying Principles "These achievements are a testament to the c...

Republican Voters of South Carolina

The Democratic Party and President Obama's re-election brain trust are doing cartwheels and giving each other high-fives over the news that Newt Gingrich is surging in the polls in Florida and won the South Carolina primary. "Thank you, thank you, and thank you.  We couldn't have done it better ourselves! You have just voted for a candidate who is viewed unfavorably by 60% of American voters...

2011: 9th Warmest Calendar Year On Record, Even With A La Niña

NASA's James Hansen and a few of his colleagues released their assessment of 2011 global temperatures recently.  In short, 2011 was the 9th warmest year in the GISS dataset. Just as importantly, this situation occurred in the midst of a continuing La Niña event that is of moderate strength.  La Niña is characterized by a general cooling of the tropical Pacific waters near the surface;...

As the Seth at Enik Rising reminds us with exit poll results, there were almost no non-white Republicans voting the in South Carolina primary election. About 99% of exit poll respondents were white, while the number of black and other non-white Republican primary voters in South Carolina rounded to 1% each. Overall in South Carolina, as of "the 2010 census, the racial make up of the state is...

Washington State To Enact Bill Authorizing Gay Marriage

Public proclaimations of support for a gay marriage bill by a sufficient number of relevant state legislators and the state's Governor makes passage of a bill authorizing same sex marriage in Washington State into law a near certainty. Washington would then become the seventh state to legalize same-sex marriage along with New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Iowa, Connecticut and Vermont. T...
